At the 2020 KBIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) this week, Samsung broadened its portfolio of smart appliances, adding new premium slide-in ranges, a side-by-side Family Hub refrigerator, and a new level of clothing care – the AirDresser – to its line of connected products for 2020.

The SmartThings area at the Samsung KBIS booth

The Samsung slide-in ranges lineup includes gas, electric, induction, and dual fuel models. The ranges are designed with a “built-in” look, but are easy to install. They feature controllability with popular voice assistants, through which the cook can instruct the oven to preheat while mixing meal ingredients. The ranges, with frequent use, also learn the user’s preferences and cooking habits, so if the user frequently sets the oven to a certain temperature to, say, bake cookies, it will suggest that temperature first when the oven is being preheated.

Color choices include black stainless, stainless, or the new Tuscan stainless models. Other features include a redesigned control panel with an intuitive interface and minimal buttons, a fingerprint-resistant exterior and an ergonomically designed knob for better grip and control. The slide-in ranges also feature air frying capabilities, and up to 23K BTU Dual Power burners that will quickly boil water or precisely melt chocolate at the desired temperature.

Because the slide-in ranges are connected, cooking times and temperatures can be remotely monitored and adjusted from a smartphone. The ranges also give you the ability to search for recipes through the Samsung SmartThings app and send the selected recipe’s cooking mode directly to the oven, to streamline meal prep.

The slide-in range lineup also includes the option of choosing Samsung’s FlexDuo feature, which allows the homeowner to select between having one oven or two.

Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator lineup, in fingerprint-resistant black stainless or stainless steel choices, now includes a new, side-by-side design with a “built-in” look, and its svelte profile includes flat doors, a minimal dispenser, and recessed handles to blend with existing kitchen appliances and cabinetry. The redesigned interior offers more real estate to accommodate groceries. The All-Around cooling technology feature provides multiple vents throughout the interior keep food evenly cooled and fresh. LED lighting illuminates the interior for a better view of contents, and a high-capacity icemaker takes up little space due to its minimal in-door design.

The Family Hub also helps streamline family-member communication through the Family Board: a digital bulletin board where the home’s occupants can “stick” notes, photos, or videos they want to share. The View Inside feature provides a view of what’s inside the fridge without opening the door. Family Hub also offers enhanced Smart View, providing a screen-mirroring experience from Samsung Galaxy phones and TVs. And the SmartThings app enables Family Hub to becomes a remote control for the owner’s smart home, permitting connection, monitoring, and control of all Samsung smart appliances and Works with SmartThings smart items, including multiple cameras.

The AirDresser garment care system, installed in a clothes closet nook

The Samsung AirDresser, also on view at KBIS, is a clothing care system that uses steam technology to smooth out wrinkles, remove odors, and sanitize clothes, freshening them and making them ready to wear in under 48 minutes. AirDresser can even send alerts when the garments are ready, via the SmartThings app, which also permits remote monitoring, control and download of additional clothing care options. AirDresser isn’t dependent on a water line, so it can be placed anywhere in the home.

In the first half of the year, Samsung’s new side-by-side refrigerator, available in multiple models, including Family Hub, will be available at retailers nationwide and online in the U.S, and AirDresser will be available on www.samsung.com. The new slide-in ranges will be available in the second half of the year.
