NOV 15 | 2022 | NY CITY
On November 15, Connected Design hosted the inaugural Design Meets Tech Event at the Company building in New York City’s Midtown area. The idea of the event was to bridge the gap between designers and smart home manufacturers and to promote networking and partnerships between the two groups.
Manufacturers and industry partners in attendance included Barco, PowerShades, Savant, Crestron, Nice/Nortek, the Living in Place Institute, DMF Lighting and Renovation Angel. Tables were set up with displays geared towards interior designers, including features like Savant’s board of different fabrics samples and tones of lighting to show the effect of light on design. There was also PowerShades’ close-up display of lighting shades, showing the available options and colors for window shades today, as well as Crestron’s showcase of their touch display and its ability to personalize a smart home.
The event also featured a panel discussing the challenges, trends and ideas circulating around the connected home and how the interior design community can capitalize on those thoughts. Moderated by editor in chief Erinn Loucks, panelists included Tim Sinnaeve, managing director of Barco; Justin Allison, director of special projects of URC; Michael Kaestner, founder of Kaestner Designers; Michelle Chestnut, director of builder services at Nice North America; and Michael Foti, COO of Restoration Angel.
Connected Design has plans for similar networking opportunities in the future. For more information, reach out to our publisher, Tony Monteleone, at tmonteleone@ctlab.media.
