Connected Design spoke with him to find out more about his background in the industry, his favorite products and his favorite installs.

What made you decide to go into technology?

Reiner: “Since I was a young child, I was always fascinated with mechanics, electricity, how things work and design concepts.  I continued my quest to learn as much as I could regarding these disciplines through my teens and young adult life.  Starting a technology based business was a natural choice for me.”

What is your favorite product or solution right now in the industry?

Reiner: “I have always been interested in smart technology and residential integrated control and I have based our business on providing these solutions.   Currently, I am most intrigued with modern lighting design techniques and lighting illumination and control solutions.”

What is the best part of your job?

Reiner: The very best part of my job is the opportunity to interact with our clients and our team.  I derive great satisfaction in building confidence in our abilities and providing solutions that make a difference in our clients everyday lives.

What has been your favorite installation to date?

Reiner: “We have recently completed a residential project in a new contemporary home on the Connecticut shore.  The electronics in this house is typical of our more sophisticated installations, consisting of a fully integrated Savant system including audio, distributed video, HVAC control, wine storage climate monitoring, security cameras, integrated video doorbells, security system monitoring, pool system controls, weather station monitoring, Lutron lighting control and motorized window treatments. What makes this system a favorite is the lighting design and fixture choices.  We had the opportunity to collaborate and co-design the house lighting with a lighting designer from the UK who has a high level of experience with linear LED lighting solutions. As a collaborative effort, we used a combination of architectural recessed lighting along with LED linear lighting, both with recessed asymmetrical lensed fixtures and LED cove lighting with illumination both upwards and downwards around the perimeters of the rooms. We also used recessed asymmetrical lensed fixtures in showers, shower niche’s and closets throughout. We used extensive DMX control for colored LED lighting throughout and have provided full color controls and presets through the system user app. This system was a challenge to design and implement. We are very proud of the results.”

What is one fun fact about you that isn’t industry related?

Reiner: “The first time I ever saw a sailboat, it changed my life. I love the open water and the art of sailing boats. I am a lifelong avid sailor and cherish my time spent on the water. I have involved myself in this world to a high level. I am currently the Rear Commodore of a Yacht Club on the Connecticut shore.”
