Nothing makes an event pop or a vibe matched as music does, and thanks to RTI and Sonos, integrating sound into the home and controlling tunes has become easier. On July 19, RTI announced the launch of a driver for the RTI control platform that seamlessly integrates with Sonos sound systems.

A Long-Awaited Collaboration

The collaboration between RTI, an award-winning innovator in smart home and smart business control and automation, and Sonos, a leader in wireless audio and sound experience, has been an anticipated one. “We are thrilled to launch the new Sonos-verified driver, which has been one of the top requests from our dealer base,” said RTI product director Neal Ellsworth. “The resulting integration enables integrators to build a music system fully tailored to their clients’ needs and managed from the same intuitive interface from which they manage their lighting, shades, climate, security and other automation.”

The RTI and Sonos Driver Offers Specialized Sound Experiences

With the new integration system, sound automation and integration is customizable. The integration system offers a comprehensive number of control options for users. The options are displayed on the auto-generated page of the RTI remote, touch panel, or mobile device for each Sonos player added to the system. Control options include:

  • Simplified room grouping.
  • Volume control of individual and grouped Sonos players.
  • Full transport controls, including feedback metadata for cover art, artist/track/album details, and elapsed time.
  • Ability to route an externally connected AV source from one player to any other player.
  • Added home theater control with supported Sonos players including Night Sound and Speech Enhancement.

The highlight of the RTI driver with Sonos sound system integration is its ability to automate based on events. Integrators can automate client systems based on feedback from the Sonos systems. For example, a specific playlist can trigger an accompanying lighting scene. Forget the doorbell interrupting the bridge of a favorite tune: the driver can lower the volume or pause the audio with a single ding.

“This richness of integration elevates any system,” continued Ellsworth. “It’s easy and intuitive for users, and seamless for integrators as well.”

The driver is now available for authorized RTI dealers at the RTI store and within the RTI Designer 11 control application programming software.
